The Boat – SV Reverie
SV Reverie is a 1979 Cabo Rico 38 built in Costa Rica and designed by Bill Crealock. She is a classic cutter design with a full keel and a heavy displacement making her a sturdy ocean going Vessel.

Interior
The interior is clad in teek with classic woodwork throughout. The V-Berth is the main sleeping quarters, but a quarter berth exists, if it’s not being used as the garage. The galley is practical, but small and the saloon is roomy with an additional pull out berth on the starboard side. She has a small head and a composting toilet.
The storage situation is quite substantial and just when you thought there was no more room, there’s always somewhere to put something…
We have a large original ice box powered by a SeaFrost cold plate refrigeration system that cools with both air and water. For extra cold storage we have an electric cooler from Bodega.
Sail Power / Engine
As a cutter rig, Reverie is outfit with a high clew jib, or “yankee,” foresail and a staysail. Her mainsail has 2 slab reef points. Being an old boat, she requires raising the mainsail at the mast. The staysail is hank on style with a self tacking boom and the headsail is on a furler. being 20,000lbs + she is not fast, and averages 6-7 knots on a brisk beam reach without the help of currents or following seas.
Reverie was repowered with a Yanmar 4JH45 Diesel Engine in 2019. We have a hydraulic autopilot as well as a Hydrovane Wind powers self steering system.
Electrical System
We refit her electrical system with 400 AH Victron External BMS Lithium batteries and a Lead Acid starter battery for the engine. We have a multiplus II/3000/120 Inverter 2x DC/DC chargers, the Lynx Power in, 100/50 Smart Solar MPPT Charger, a 100/300 Smart Solar MPPT Charger, and Cerbo GX with a touch screen.
The system is charged with 800W of solar panels, 2 separate arrays, one on our solar arch that is 600W and one on our Bimini at 200W. The system will also charge off the Diesel Engine alternator through two Orion TR Smart Non-Isolated DC/DC Chargers. It has proved to be sufficient for all our power needs.

About Us
We are an adventurous couple that met in Yosemite valley and lived the climbing dirt bag life for some years before entering the rat race of somewhat normal working life. Our passion was rock climbing until injury began to plague it. Revived from my childhood on boats, sailing seemed like the next logical option. We are now entering a new chapter in life, leaving the corporate 9-5 to explore the world, to be challenged, and find our new path.
